Over a year and a half ago, I decided that I needed a drastic change as I was overweight for my height and was getting heartburn and severe back ache every day.
I was told about the Jumpstart 7 Day Weight Loss Program and did some research on it. Firstly I understood that it was a "Detox" and a "Jumpstart" only. I needed something to get me started and prepare me for a weight-loss program. I lost 16 kilograms in total during and after the jump start program.
With this Detox / diet, you have to prepare yourself mentally. If you are not serious about it and going to cheat then don't waste your time or money. Even after the seven day detox, the weight just fell off because I stuck to a proper eating plan. Some people who cant stand fruit and veggies or funny tasting things will not like this diet at all.
The Jump start 7 Day Weight Loss Program is a seven-day juicing fast whereby you consume nothing more than fruit- and vegetable-based juices. A shopping list is provided of exactly what fruit and veggies you need for the week. It is suggested that a week before doing a detox, that you get your body ready by eating the fruits and veggies instead of shocking your body with no solid food and just starting on a juice diet / fast.
I bought the complete pack which contains:
* Jump Start 7 day weight-loss program book
* Jump Start Juicing machine
* Jump Start juice Kid's Korner (recipe book)
* A book with other recipes (smoothies etc)
There is a detailed meal program in the book which shows receipes that need to be followed (Breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack and dinner) It gives an explanation of what each fruit / vegetable does for your body individually and also when you combined certain fruit and veggies together, what they do for your body collectively. It explains why those fruit and veggies are paired together and which toxins are released.
Exercise recommendations
While doing the Jumpstart program, it is recommended that you get as much rest as possible. Many people will feel bursts of energy while on the program, but it is still recommended that you reserve your energy to aid in your body’s detoxification process.
If you do exercise while on the program, it is recommended that you do stretching exercises, yoga, deep breathing, walking, light jogging or rebounding on a small trampoline.
Intense physical activity should be avoided.
It is recommended that you take a photo of yourself before you start the detox and also after.
A chart is provided in the book which you can to fill out your measurements as the week unfolds (weight, waist, thigh, breast measurements etc) You can lose up to 7 kilograms in the week doing this detox. I lost 3 kilos in this week as I didn't realize that I was about to menstruate. I was happy with 3 kilos as some people cant lose 2 kilos in a whole month, so 3 kilos in one week was an achievement for me. I also lost 6 cm on my waist and 3 centimeters on my hips.
In the beginning the juices where sweet and taste nice. But you still get hungry. So I read the book carefully which stated that you should use a spoon and "eat" the juice as if you are having soup. Just drinking it from a glass is only quenching your thirst but not doing anything four your hunger. When you use a spoon, it kind of sends a signal to your stomach that food is on its way. You take longer to finish the juice and you seem to be fuller afterwards. It sounds absurd but it really works.
My the middle of the week I had no hunger issues and found that the juices filled me up until it was time for the next juice. Also the juices where not not as sweet anymore but still manageable.
By the end of the week, I was finding it very difficult to finish the juices. It was like the recommended amount / quantity was too much. But in fact, it was my tummy that had shrunk. Also the juices started to taste not so nice as things like basil was being added. Also , raw cabbage was not so nice. But I had to just consume it, because I was seeing the results and had come so far already.
So what happens after the seven day detox?
So the week after the detox you are still advised not to eat solid food. As you can imagine, it will be another shock to your system and you will pick up the weight you just lost if you try to eat solid food straight away.
On the first day afterward, you have to now continue with the fruit and veggies but eat them raw instead of juicing them. You must continue to have some juices as snacks during the day
On the second day you may introduce soups and still continue to eat fruit and drink juices like the first day.
On the third day you may have your soup with a fresh salad while continuing drinking the juices and eating fruits.
On the fourth day, while eating the fruits and drinking the juices, you may introduce some free range chicken or some fish.
Thereafter the book gives you tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle while incorporating juices into your daily life.
So in the three months following this detox, I followed a balanced diet and lost an insane amount of weight to bring my total weight loss to 16 kilos. The weight just fell off. If I did not have a jump start I would not have been able to stick to a diet and the weight would have been harder to lose. I guess once the toxins where released, it must have been easier to shed the weight.
It is recommended that you do this detox once a year to flush out toxins from the body. After a year and a half it is definitely time to detox again even though I have managed to keep the weight off. Winter was tough and I ate things that I should have not eaten. In my defence, the cold weather does make a person eat more junk! lol Also this detox clears up any skin problems as well, so since I have been eating poorly lately my skin is not looking its best. So I would say that I am overdue for my next detox.
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to share my experience.
Thanks for reading.

ReplyDeleteHi I can't find honew dew melon and cantoloupe in my town, so what can I use in there places?
ReplyDeleteHi Sorry for the late reply. I think some of these fruits are seasonal. But I found it in Food Lovers Market. Its essentially the green melon and the yellow / orange melon.
DeleteHope this helps.
Thanks
I'm also struggling to find watermelon and peaches. If you find out, please let me know!
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteI think these are seasonal. Check Food Lovers Market. Also google alternatives for these fruits. Or the other choice is to postpone until these fruits come back into season.
Thank you
Hi there. I was excited to read that the programme actually works. I am into day 2 on the programme and I cant feel any difference. Infact my body seems to be retaining fluid and I am concerned that maybe I am doing something wrong. I don't get hungry and I feel so full of energy but the weight is not " Falling off"
ReplyDeleteHow do you know what size fruit and veg to use. Is 5 carrots a small size carrot or a medium size. The thought of consuming the juice of an entire cantaloupe in one day is making me doubt my decision.
Please help.
Hi There. I am soo sorry that I took so long to asnswer. I have been working late nights but that is no excuse. How did the rest of the week on this program go? Did it get any better? The book does say that each person may react differently to the program. It also says that even though u have extra energy, you must rest. Please let me know how it went, I am curious to know.
DeleteThank you in advnace four your response.
Natalie
Hey there! I just want to offer you a huge thumbs up for your excellent information
ReplyDeleteyou have got here on this post. I'll be returning to your site for more soon.
my homepage; diet that works
Have been on so many dieets, as soon as I eat "normal" the weight is back!! Did You manage to keep the weight off until now?
ReplyDeleteHi There, Sorry for the late reply. I truly believe that having digestive shredded bran every morning in my cereal has kept the weight off. So on the days that I cheat, which is mostly in winter, it keeps my tummy happy and expels any cheat food from the previous day. I get mine from Dischem for about R11 for a huge 500g packet.
DeleteHope this helps.
Natalie
can you still take prescription medication etc
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteI still took all my vitamins while on this detox. I am sure it would be fine to take medication as it is all natural fruit and vegetables. The only thing I would worry about is, that normally you would need to take medication after a meal (not on an empty stomach), and in the first two days of this detox, you will be a little hungry, so essentially it would be like taking it on an empty stomach. So my advise would be to check with a doctor.
Thanks
Natalie
i want to start
ReplyDeleteHi read your post and it was so interesting. I am from Nigeria and i really want to try this 7 day program. But my challenge is most of the fruits are not available in my country. How do i go about this.
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteIn the book it does say that you may substitute fruits. Not just any fruits though. If you google an alternative to a fruit that you are having trouble finding, it should recommend a similar fruit that gives the same benefit, There are some fruits that you need to stay away from like papaya for example.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for reading.

Hi there. I started this week on Monday. I bought the juicer and complete set about 2 years ago, but never got down to it. I am now on day 6 and a weight loss of 3,4 kilos already.During this time I continued with my daily walks but reduced it to 3 kms.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say to all those who have difficulty to start , go for it . You will enjoy it and be amazed.

DeleteHi Natalie
ReplyDeleteI have a over active thyroid and has been dropping weight now on weight gainers tablets and putting on non-stop. I have done the jump start before and has lost weight, but now fearful that it will not show the desired results.
Any advice u give will mean a lot :) because I really need the motivation.
Thanks!
Hi There
DeleteI think that you have nothing to lose by doing the Jumpstart detox, because that is what it is - a detox. It is the best thing to start of with before going on a low kilojoule diet. This jumpstart detox clears the way for a diet. It should be good for you in my opinion.
Thank you
Natalie
Just started this morning. Feeling a bit nauseous from the cantaloupe drink.
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteSo how did the rest of the jumstart detox go? I guess we all react differently. I liked the fruit, however some people cant stand it. Let me know how it went.
Thanks!
Natalie
I just started the program yesterday and before i started i was 93.9. The first day was horrible felt so hungry even today as am typing i can feel my stomach going crazy for food. I went on the scale again today and amazingly am 92.7 which means in just a day i have lost 1.2kg...that is my motivation am going strong...I cannot wait to see how much i will loose in 7 days.....
ReplyDeleteHi
DeleteYes, the first day left me very hungry, but the trick was to put it in a bowl and eat it with a spoon like soup. It kinda tricks your stomach that food is coming, not a drink. I felt the same way when I saw the the scale on the first day. it is the best motivation to keep going!.. Did you complete it? How did it go?
Regards
Natalie

ReplyDeleteHi Ms. Natalie, I was really interested to try juicing to help me loss weight. And luckily I found your blog, but I am having a hard time starting the program because I don't know how many fruits and vegetables to use or what to prepare for each meal. It would really be a big help if you could send me a copy of the book or the recipes for each meal. Pretty please! Thank you so much! I hope to hear from you soon. God Bless! :)

Hi, Natalie
ReplyDeleteI've bought the Jumpstart juicer about 2 years ago and could not complete the 7 days. I think I'm more motivated now to lose weight as I've gained a lot after my two pregnancies. I've found my juicer but I think I borrowed my book for someone and can't remember to whom. Will you be so kind as to email the 7 day recipes for me? I would love to start on Monday and I'm positive that I will be able to last the 7 days this time.

Hi There
DeleteThere are a food websites and blog with recipes and shopping lists for this diet.
I know you can and will succeed! Let me know how it goes.

I started the jumpstart detox yesterday. Yesterday was pretty easy going, today not so much. I tend to get severe headaches during the early afternoon. But I just pop a pain killer and continue forward.
ReplyDeleteIn the evening I tend you have a lot more energy, not to say that there is a lack during the day. Besides the headache, Im managing surprisingly well.
I never seem to complete any diet that I try, but with the Jumpstart I have such a positive outlook, and am going at it so strongly. SUPER PROUD OF MYSELF.
What I think I am going to do after my 7 days detox, is start introducing solids by have Future Life for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and fruits inbetween.
I want to wean myself back onto food VERY slowly.
Hi there
DeleteYes, you should be proud of yourself - great job.
A word of caution though, Future Life is great, BUT have a look at the ingredients and content of it. I don't think you should eat it 3 times a day.
You can gain weight if you over eat this product. There is a reason why sports people eat it.
This product is also given to sick people like HIV patients. It has alot of calories and carbs.
They do now make a low fat version of this cereal called "Zero Smart Food (Future Life).
The problem is, the original Future Life tastes soo good with milk or water, t makes you want to eat it all the time.
Keep well
Natalie
Hi Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI psyched myself for this entire month to do my jumpstart from the 30th of this month, but the closer i am getting to the day the, the more terrifying it seems as I am a "junk" foodie and literally cried this weekend because i had a hectic craving for pizza... anyways, after reading your post i feel inspired again as I was never overweight, but i think about 2 years ago i gained 20kgs overnight and now weigh 80kg, so my jumpstart is way overdue... your post wasn't long at all, i wish i could read more about how it affected you emotionally, because i am not planning on doing this just to lose weight, but also for a spiritual reason and to gain control over my eating habits again, since clearly my metabolism isn't what it used to be. thanks again for inspiring me to go through with this!! i believe i will be able to do this, my poor husband is freaking out as he knows what I can turn into when i get hungry, he is my support system (he joked that he will go out and get steel armor, the bible and some hillsong CDs on Saturday as he wont be entering the battlefield without protection!! hahaha) He said he will stand by me through this and keep me inspired and even help make the juices. :) Keep well! and WELL DONE!! :)
Hi There
ReplyDeleteThank God for your husband supporting you emotional and physically helping you making the juices. Honestly, it is alot of work. cutting, rinsing, juicing ect.
I think his help will help you ease into it. I wont lie, the first two days will be hard, but remember not to drink the juices, but to "eat" the juices with a spoon, like you are eating a soup.
Hold on to your faith. If you are spiritually strong, then you will achieve your goals.
I have a friend who did not support me through my jumpstart prgram. She said that she did not believe in these :quick diets plan schemes" and that I should follow her diet plan. I kept telling her that it was a detox. Even though I didnt have her support, I went ahead with this anyway, and I did not regret it.
Now, a few years later, she decided to try it and couldn't stop raving about it. She couldn't believe her eyes, when the scale showed that she lost 3 kilos on just the third day.
So, no matter what anyone tells you, if you are dedicated to it, and you believe in what you are doing, you will succeed.
Remember that your journey does not end on the 7th day, its the start. First is the detox, then the healthy eating plan that you can introduce into your life going forward..
I also suggest that you eat the fruits and veggies for a while before you start, instead of shocking your system, to ease yourself into it.
I can honestly say, that after the detox, I did not have the back-ache I used to have or health problems.
So keep your eye on your goals, and all you can do is your best.
Best wishes to you
Natalie
Good day
ReplyDeletethis sound stunning and i would love to try this Will you be so kind as to email the 7 day recipes for me? janet.erxleben@gmail.com

Hi There Natalie.
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow!!!!! Thank you for sharing. You have just made my life a little easier. You see when I saw the advert this morning on TV with my hubby, I was trying to find fault with it and telling hubby that the before and after pics are not that of the people involved. Because really how can one lose that much weight so soon.
Then of course I go and goggle, and I came across your blog, and it has opened my eyes.
I have spoken to hubby who has agreed that we all - even our 11 year old daughter will benefit from this program. We have decided that we will buy our machine November / December and then in December when we are all at home, we will start our 7 Day Jump Start.
Thank you so much for the wonderful inspiration you have given me.
Greetings
Chantelle
Hi Chantelle

So good luck to you and your family and let me know how it goes!.

Is there anywhere I can get a replacement book, I still have the miles juicer
ReplyDeleteHi there.
DeleteThis particular diet has a website. Maybe try contacting them and ask if you could just get the book only.
Alternative my, there are other website with juice diets very similar to this one. Maybe you could try their recipes instead?
Thanks
